Sorry guys a little late today on the blog!! Well I hope all you Moms had a great Mothers Day!! I know my wife had a good one and I was happy to contribute to that!!!
Saturday we had my son’s baseball game and I was pumped cause I know he’s ready to bust out!!! We go there, his first time up he strikes out. Thats O.K. thats going to happen time to time. Then it’s our turn in the field, I look over and Michael is sitting in the dugout!! I walk over to him and say ,”What are you doing”?, he goes “taking a break”! I go “No Way “! He goes “I asked the coach and he said I could take a break!” And with that I yell “No Way get out there and play!” I then pry his fingers off the fence and get him out to the coach to play the feild! He proceeds to commit 2 errors and clearly is not “in the game”. Now I can figure out by his body language that he’s thinking about playing that frickin’ WII!!! He gets up again , strikes out cause he’s not concentrating!!! At this point I am so mad at him I’m fumming over this and here’s why. It’s O.K. to have a bad day, but it’s BAD BAD BAD to not try your hardest I cannot tolerate that!!!So I wanted to impose no WII for the rest of that day,(at least while I was home!), and my wife says I was riding him a little to hard cause he’s not playing in the majors! But I say thats not the point the fact that he just didn’t want to try his hardest is the point!! And I can’t be the only parent that has this problem with his child!! This electronic world we live in is wonderful sometimes and dreadfull other times! So I’ve gotta impose some restrictions on the WII cause it’s occupying all his headspace!! Anyway what wound up happening was I let him go on the wii and later he called me and said he was sorry and promised never to give anything less than 100% in everything he does. So he got my point!!But I felt awfull that whole day and night and I’m not exactly sure why but we got thru it and manage to have a great time together on Sunday with my wife!!

Brought a smile to my face and touched my heart!!! Can’t do anything but love you guys!!!

It’s Monday and it’s time to blog!! I’m excited baby!!!
Lets go back to how live music has been so devalued shall we!! Now we’ve already discussed how the musicians themselves have contributed to this but now we need to talk about the owners part in this mess! It took me a long time to figure out that the owners/managers don’t distinguish between talent or no talent good or bad! They only care about what their “ring” is for that night.This ,in my mind is very short sighted because if you are looking to “build’ a bar crowd in a restaurant,you need to have quality music there and preferrably the same person or people! Oh and this huge, not only must they be good, they must be PERSONNABLE!! That is of course unless we’re talking about Saturday night, then you can hire anybody good because people are out anyway. But during the week, it does not work when owners have somebody different every week! You cannot build a local crowd by shuffling your musicians over & over! Owners tend to hire an act thinking “oh they’ll bring a good crowd down”, then next week they’ll hire a different act and again, “oh they’ll bring a good crowd down”, and it goes like this finally the owner will repeat artist,(after a month or 2) but now the people that showed up for that same act the 1st time they played there will not show up the 2nd time because chances are they’ve seen that act somewhere else that week and they’ve already been to your restaurant the 1st time they played AND IT’S NOT THEIR SPOT!!! Owners please you have to build a local crowd and you can only do that by hiring an act that actually has talent!!! So YES you have to weed out the non-talents!! And as far as building a crowd, it’s like baseball it’s always best to build from within then go out and get a piece or 2 if needed!!Please owners you can’t just hire anyone because they’re cheaper and you just need music!!! Paying for good musicians is like paying for good ingredients to make your food! It cost a little more up front but in the long run you make that money back and more!!!!

Here we go!!! 1st week of May!!! Baseball is in full swing now!!Memorial Day fast approaching along with air conditioner season!!!
Check it took my son to a batting cage yesterday! Man when he gets his timing down he can turn on the ball and drive it baby!!I After that we went and got him a new bat and a tee to work on his swing! Sounds boring right? But it was the best day of the week to me! I hung out with my kid , then barbecued some chicken for the wife and father-in-law and my son of course, and had a coupla glasses of wine and hung out at home all night and I was the happiest man on earth!!!What can I say I’m a boring middle-aged guy and I love it!!! Next Sunday we’re gonna work on some fielding! Can’t wait!!! Hey check it I’ve got an opportunity to be a game-day coach for my son’s baseball team so stay tuned and I’ll let ya know how that goes! C’mon admit it you’re hangin’ on the edge of your seat right?
Alright I know there’s more to say about how the “local live music” scene has gotten so devalued but we’ll have to pick that up next week! Lets get right to the calender shall we!?

Well well well!! Lets talk. As I’m getting older I can’t help but notice the change in the landscape of our local live music scene. First of all I’d like to thank from the bottom of my heart all the regulars who come to our open mic at Jack halyards and the regulars that come to Bistro Citron and of course our Cool Fish regulars. You guys show up every week with enthusiasm and vigor and quite frankly it allows me to keep playing music for a living and for that I am so grateful! But whenever I try to work a new place I get a serious look at how live music has changed over the years and how it has gotten so devalued!
I’ve been tryin’ to book the Rock Trio in a couple of new places and it’s clear to me that the people that book local live music see no value in what we do so maybe you can help me figure this out! I still see people around me still as excited as I was and am about live music! So it’s not the audience!! My guess is, the economy number 1, and the players themselves show no solidarity to each other! Musicians are constantly being undercut by other musicians who just want the gig,(Tappo, The Schooner Inn, The Cresent Club)! Result this drives the price,(and value), down! This is going to make it very hard to get the price back up as the economy recovers so c’mon guys and girls , show some solidarity! I mean lets not drive the price down ourselves we have enough things working against us!
Thank God I work for people who see value in what I do and even more thank God my audience appreciates what I do! As a result I continue to go to work with a smile on my face every week, all the time!!! This week’s Schedule:

Oh Baby!!! Ya feel that?! Yeah thats baseball season, barbecues ans beach weather movin in!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!! My son went back to school today and that was a little depressing but not that big a deal. But boy did I have fun with him on his vaca from school! I put up this basketball hoop in my driveway while he was home and man did I have fun teaching him how to play “one on one” and “Around The World”! Oh and whats this the Metropolitains with 2 out of 3 from Philadelphia and sharing 1st place with The Senators of all teams!! I LOVE IT!!! AHHH Ya got to enjoy it while you can cause after all it is the Mets and us fans have been trained to never assume the division this early in the year!!

O.K. so I’m really late today so kill me!!! Went to the N.Y. Aquarium in Coney Island with the fam! Hate to say but the place is a little cheesy! Better than the one in River Head ,(I hate to say that too), but still a fair amount of cheese involved. But the Boardwalk is right there and famous Nathans is right there but the best thing…..Theeee absolute best thing about going to Coney Island was and is…. that Totonno’s Pizza is nearby on Neptune Ave! Now here is some Cheese you don’t mind havin”!! Crust is crispy and light on the inside, very tasty I have to say that this is the only pizza I’ve had that actually rivals Johnny’s Pizza in Mount Vernon! At this point I have to go with Johnny’s Pizza but thats because I’ve had it so many more times and I’m a loyal guy. But I gotta say I could go to Tottonno’s a few more times and possibly flip!!! I t was that good!! Lets put it this way my son,(very picky eater) ate the crust and said on the way out,”that ,, was good pizza!!” He’s a tough critic cause he doesn’t like anything!!!
Hope everybody’s Easter was cool mine was spac frickin tacular!!! Got to see my Aunt Tony and my Cuz Jenifer,(Who is a great cook and whom I love very dearly!) Drank some wonderful wine had a few laughs with my Bro and his Son Ricky. And played baseball with my son most of the daylight hours how cool is that?! Hope yours was as good as mine!!!

Did my taxes today baby? Whew! I don’t mind sayin’ that, my friends, Was a pain in the butt! Emotionally and financially if ya know what I mean!!! But it’s done it’s over we move on to the next pain in the butt which happens to be a root canal that I have scheduled for Wednesday afternoon!! Oh I can’t wait! I get to a thousand dollars to endure just a few minutes of pain!! That’ll be fun!!
Anyway had the final birthday celebration for my boy this past Sunday! I gotta say this time my wife did most of the cooking and it came out great!!! I was impressed! Baked Ziti, Sausage & Peppers, and Chicken Thighs! She did a great job on all!!!Now we’re done celebrating his Birthday and now we move on to Col’s B-Day!!This is costing me a fortune in Wine but at least I’m smiling while I’m in debt!!!

WHEW!!! Did I make some SAWCE this weekend baby!!! I only wish my sister Nancy where here to see what she’s actually missing being all the way ova’dere on the left side of the country! Sis you may think your sauce is good but you haven’t had the 2012 model Madanad your Bro has been makin! East Coast continues to rule for quality cooking and spelling LOL!!!Seriously I know it was good SAWCE because my brother was scouffin’it down and tellin me how much better his sauce is and what I should have done to make it better! But after his 2nd plate my bro did say “good job!!”Oh and my Nephew -in-law Scott cranked down 3 plates and was speaking Italian, so what better testiment to quality can you get than that!!!

Oh and I gotta tell ya Carly was really well behaved I was very proud of her!! Much better than my superbowl party!!She’s growin’ up ya know! We were celebrating Mike Jr’s Birthday with the family and a good time was had by all but most importantly my son was feelin’ the love!!!
Alright!! Got a day off so I’m takin my son to the batting cage in Bethpage to get him ready for the baseball season so lets get the schedule goin’ here huh?!
